In a way, plucking a frock from the 2010s and making it feel current is trickier than pulling from the ’90s or beyond. Not much time has passed since the decade, for one, and many of the 2010s fads (like business casual!) still feel somewhat dated. As a jury member at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Brie Larson had to secure a glamorous wardrobe for the many premieres, dinners, and parties she needed to attend. The star certainly hasn’t disappointed on that front. Larson has looked to Chanel for her appearances thus far, slipping into the French label’s elegant resort wear, and dazzling couture. “[Chanel is] the epitome of classic, chic, and strong, but also easy at the same time,” Larson says.
Of course, attending Cannes as a jury member has been about so much more than just dressing up for Larson. The actor sees the iconic film festival as a moment to celebrate the art of filmmaking. “Cannes has always held the standard of what cinema can be, how it can change our minds, how it can push things forward, and how it can make us feel uncomfortable,” says Larson. “So to be a part of something like this is such an honor.” She describes being a part of the jury—which also includes actor Paul Dano and director Julia Ducournau—like being a part of “a beautiful extended family.” She adds, “we’re all from very different backgrounds, and have now come together to watch the same films and have deep conversations surrounding each of them. It is something so sacred and rewarding that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
